Rehabilitation

AHAP Centre

Besides Prevention and Early Intervention, Rehabilitation is also vital for the hearing impaired. Rehabilitation includes fitting the appropriate Hearing aid, developing oral communication and continuous follow-up of the same. Of these, developing Oral communication forms an important role in the progress of the individual. We provide Speech Therapy not only to the children with Hearing Disability but also for other Speech disorders that include Stammering, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, etc.

EARLY INTERVENTION SCHOOL FOR HEARING IMPAIRED

Children, who have received early intervention, demonstrated significantly better speech, language, social and emotional development, than children who were identified late. They had language development similar to non-verbal cognitive development and it was maintained in the lower part of the normal average range through 1-5 years of life. It resulted in better speech intelligibility, better personal-social development, less parental concern and stress. Our objective is to admit children below the age of 5 yrs. in this school and improve their Aural and Oral communication so that they could join the others after one or two years of schooling at our school.

For congenital hearing loss, early identification is important, so that hearing aids could be fitted for these children at an early stage and speech therapy could be given, thereby, oral communication and quality of life could be improved. Hence such awareness is to be created in the community.

Our course aims at developing the language and communication of the children to the levels of a normal child, so that they may be able to catch up with the other normal children Backed with the best testing facilities for children with hearing disability and greater attendance for Speech Therapy classes, we have started an Early Intervention School for children with Hearing disability, at Madurai in 2008.
