outreach

AHAP Centre

Our Outreach activities have been a major reason for our success. The department has always been working towards achieving our mission by organizing regular screening camps in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu. We have networked with the local organizations - NGOs, Service Clubs, Corporate, Banks, Old Age Homes, Government Offices, the Schools for Disabled and B.Tech Hearing Impaired students of Kalasalingam University - to make sure that the Screening camps benefits the community. We have also conducted screening camps for traffic police,

Our camps differ from the normal medical camps as we just don't use it as a marketing tool. Our camps are aimed only to create awareness and screen hearing loss, as we require a hushed ambience to assess hearing loss. The patients who have been identified with hearing loss are referred to our centre for further evaluation, after which hearing aids are being prescribed. This makes us unique and genuine from other commercial Hearing aid centres.

AWARENESS PROGRAM FOR INDUSTRY WORKERS

The next who made it to our list were the Industry labour. Besides leading to hearing disorders, noise pollution can also cause stress related problems. To avoid such problems, we have been spreading the news on the usage of safety equipments among the Industry workers and the ill effects of not using them.

AWARENESS THROUGH EXHIBITIONS

To make sure that we create awareness among the community, we follow diversified ways and so we participate in exhibitions and Government Awareness programs.

TRAINING PROGRAMS for SELF HELP GROUPS,TEACHERS & SSA

Early intervention is one area where we focus constantly. Children spend a majority of their day at school and so their teachers know them better than their parents. The teachers get ample time to observe their wards and so we chose them to be our ambassadors for early intervention. 'Wait and Watch' is a dangerous phrase in the world of rehabilitation, especially in the case of hearing impairments and communication disorders. A child who shows symptoms of hearing and communication disorder should be considered for immediate assessment. Such disorders can be rectified with proper intervention.

Earlier the detection better the rehabilitation process. Hence AHAP Centre conducts regular training programs for teachers and also for the special educators of Sarva Siksha Abiyan program.
